Putu the World Traveler

Putu is the Balinese prayer mirror we got on our honeymoon in Bali. Since Bali was our first stop, we carried Putu around for 3 weeks throughout Indonesia, Thailand and Egypt.

I have run with Putu through the Malaysian airport, and just about forgot her as we were entering Egypt. We named her Putu after an awesome guide we had while hiking up Mt. Batur in Bali. Instead of calling the mirror "the souvenir" the whole time we just named her. So Putu it is.

After making it through several flights, long boat rides, a crazy Thai monsoon, 3 countries and 3 continents... she made it home! Putu had so many stickers and was so wrapped up we practically forgot what she looked like. D had to fix up her nose and hands, which had gotten damaged throughout our travels. But we finally have her up and she looks beautiful!

Superboy Blue Chalkboard for our Kitchen

We both loved the idea of a little blue chalkboard in our kitchen on the bathroom door. It adds a pretty pop of color and will make keeping a grocery list, errands list, love notes, etc.... easy - I'll just take a pic of the list before we leave - going green man. I love list.

After searching for a few weeks for the perfect color, I found Hudson Paint chalkboard paint which hands down had the best selection of chalkboard paint colors that I could find. Superboy blue was perfection and it turned out perfect.

D taped off a square on the door and painted like 4 or 5 coats over a few days. It looks awesome.

Somehow I can't find plain white chalk ANYWHERE IN NYC. How is this possible? I work in Midtown NYC it's like the center of the world you should be able to get anything you want there. So the search continues. I'll update when we finally use it :) But for now it's just a pretty solid blue, and it looks great next to our Balinese Protection Mask and peephole door frame.

Hill Family Adventures

One of my Christmas gifts this year from D was a Hill Family Adventure map, so we can keep track of our travels together as husband and wife and then with the future kids :)

We have it hanging on the brick wall in the living room over our family dinner table.

Home Pin - New York City

Traveled To - Tennessee, Puerto Rico, Lake Tahoe, Iceland, Amsterdam, St Kitts, Montreal, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt

We've been working on Ancestry.com so maybe we will add pins from our places of ancestry some day. Would be cool for the future kids to see (very future Mom!)

Adding in our pins! This one is Lake Tahoe, California

Bedroom Updates

So the bedroom is moving slowly but surely. It was the first room we painted and set up, but then our main focus has been the living room (besides organizing our closets).

We have yet to hang up ANYTHING in the bedroom yet and besides a few frames on our one dresser, it is bare. Don't love it but we know it's worth taking it slow and not rushing anything.

We have a large batik we purchased - surprise - on our honeymoon in Bali that is going to be a focal point of the room. We need to find time to go get it framed.

But the next big thing is painting it all WHITE! White bed, white mirror frame, white dresser. Crisp and clean bedroom colors. Then we'll add color in from the picture frames (I'm obsessed with pictures) and artwork.

Until all of that can be accomplished (while working hard and trying to relax and enjoy summer), we made 2 quick updates.

First is a star lamp I purchase in Asheville, North Carolina on my first trip to visit D's parents who live in Tennessee. I love the colors and it gives the whole room a really cool blue glow.

Then we painted the inside of our closet doors. It was my idea. It's like the inside of my locker haha. My closet is mellow yellow and D's closet is grey. We always keep the closet doors closed so it's fun to see a pop of color when you open the door. And I'll prob add pictures and shiz in the future :)

Wisconsin Suncatcher & Egyptian Lamp

So I'm not the type of girl that goes to Home Goods to buy decorations (but I do have an Etsy jewelry addiction...). Our home is a collection of things from where we have traveled. I started traveling Europe when I was 18 and Dustin moved to Amsterdam when he was 22 so we have accumulated things from all over the world.

Not to mention an entire honeymoon collection of souvenirs from Indonesia, Thailand and Egypt. A bit of a travel addiction but we make it work :)

Okay so the stories behind these two new living room window additions are:

> Wisconsin Rainbow Sun Catcher - I love rainbows. I love color. (I love lamp?). And rainbows remind me of my MamMam, who passed away almost 2 years ago. My brother Sammy B lived in Janesville, Wisconsin for a year and he got me this for Christmas from a store we had visited over Thanksgiving that year. Another item that makes me smile every time I see it.

> Egyptian Lamp - We picked this beauty up on the last day of our honeymoon in Cairo. Cairo was so beautiful and magical, even better and more mystical than I'd imagined. This lamp reminds me of walking through the Bazar in Cairo.
